Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria

Education Sector

In a SolarSPELL first, we hosted senior education officials from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria for a train-the-trainer at ASU’s Tempe campus in April 2023. Their team returned to NE Syria to pilot the library in three schools, training 60 educators how to use the SolarSPELL library as a resource for lesson planning, teaching and encouraging self-directed learning among their students.

The NE Syria collection not only includes resources in Kurdish, Arabic and Syriac, but it also has an Arabic-language user interface with right-to-left orientation. It even features Kurdish-language Sesame Street videos, created for refugee children.
