Scroll down to see how you can join the SolarSPELL team, enjoy mentorship from our incredible interdisciplinary staff, and have a real-world impact with your work.

The SolarSPELL initiative is proud to have students on our team in every step of our projects, from software and hardware design to impact evaluation to building the libraries themselves through content curation. Students have joined our team as research assistants, interns, fellows, volunteers, and through project-based courses. Please see the postings below for our latest opportunities and information on how to apply or enroll. If you are passionate about this initiative but do not see an opportunity below that matches your interests, please email our student engagement coordinator Cassie Barrett at [email protected] with how you would like to be involved!

Opportunities with the SolarSPELL Initiative

Volunteerships

We welcome volunteers! Please complete this volunteer interest form so we can determine the best area of contribution for you.

Our project demands and volunteer opportunities change every semester, so you may be contacted in future semesters. Please note, filling out this form does not constitute an internship application. Internship openings are listed in the “Internships” section above. If you do not see an internship opportunity suitable for you, you may fill out the volunteer form in the meantime, although we may not have your ideal role available.

Student opportunities will evolve and grow with the SolarSPELL initiative; please check back for updates!

In high school I didn’t have a reliable internet connection. It greatly limited my exposure to the world, and there was no way for me to access the information I needed. I am happy I worked on a project that would make a massive impact on many children in remote areas around the world. SolarSPELL has given me positive affirmation that I am capable of having such an impact.

RishabhSoftware Development Fellow

The most impactful aspect of working with SolarSPELL has been the hands-on experience and exposure to real-world challenges in eLearning development. Working with SolarSPELL has been instrumental in shaping my professional and personal growth, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful initiative!

SolarSPELL has helped me see how libraries can be used on an international scale, which is a concept that I was not entirely familiar with. I started a new library job during my time at SolarSPELL that incorporates an international audience using our library, and feel that SolarSPELL prepared me well for that.

HannahLibrary + Information Science Graduate Intern

The most impactful aspect of working with SolarSPELL has been the opportunity to learn new skills in data analysis. I appreciated learning from other team members and collaboratively sorting through the approaches and methods for analysis. I hope to use these skills in future projects with SolarSPELL and potentially in my applied project for my degree program.

RyanQualitative Data Analysis Graduate Intern

People on the SolarSPELL team are amazing and meetings were one of the highlights of my week — the most joyous and impactful working/intern experience I have had EVER!
