Every SolarSPELL project is collaboratively planned and conducted with partner organizations based in the countries where we work.
Co-ownership
Our projects are collaborations among equals, with all decisions openly discussed and responsibilities shared — from needs assessment to project design, content curation to training, implementation to impact evaluation.
Long-term commitment
We treat our relationships with partners as long-term commitments. When creating a new regional library, for instance, we typically work with a partner on curation and development for two years before implementing it.
Capacity building
We are intentional about sharing knowledge and building skills with our partners. This ensures that they feel empowered to steward the project long term and that we continue improving project design.

United States Peace Corps
Our largest partner to date is the United States Peace Corps. We signed a Global Strategic Partnership in May 2020, facilitating collaboration with Peace Corps posts around the world to meet information needs across sectors. Our latest project has been working with Peace Corps Lesotho to empower education volunteers and local teachers with SolarSPELL digital libraries.
Interdisciplinary collaboration
As an ASU initiative, we are also fortunate to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of some of the most innovative researchers and practitioners in the country.
Partnering with educational content creators
Nearly all of the resources on our libraries are provided by a diverse array of reputable organizations — global and local leaders in creating educational content. We owe a great deal of thanks to these organizations not only for creating such engaging and informative resources, but also for making them available to our users around the world.
